94H Wagon Wheel Shakers

Large "S", 1948-1952

Frankoma produced this group of Wagon Wheels shakers in a time of plenty. In 1948 John Frank was able to expand the plant to accomodate increasing production. He added new shaker lines and revived old ones.

By now the Ada clay had a very distinctive light color. Frankoma in these years offered Wagon Wheels dinnerware in prairie green, desert gold, and for a short time red bud, Indian blue and onyx. All of these glazes should be available on the large "S" shakers.

Additionally I show turquoise here and other glazes may be available. The year 1948 is the first time I can document that desert gold glaze appeared on a Frankoma shaker. Since the glaze was in use at least since 1939 I am lost for an explanation of the delay in using it on shakers.

All of these shakers will be on Ada clay as this group terminates before the switch to Sapulpa clay. Note also that witht he change to the big "S" Frankoma also switched to a rounded "P".
